84. U-TURN FOR CHRIST
dma Donna: A friend of mine wants a spiritual rehab for her son, who is mixing with the wrong crowd and seems to be doing drugs. Is there a place that majors in helping addicts overcome through the power of faith in Jesus. Love, Savana
Dear Savana: U-Turn for Christ seems to be a good rehab center for your friend, because they teach faith in Jesus. This rehab was begun over 25 years ago by Gerry and Peggy Brown. They were both drug addicts.
Peggy wanted to attend a church service and invited Gerry to go with her. The Word they heard preached that night penetrated Gerry’s mind with horrible conviction of the lives he had ruined as he had encouraged drug use among his friends. That very night Gerry and Peggy surrendered to the Lord.
Soon they felt His hand upon them calling them to ministry. They were overwhelmed with the idea of helping others when they themselves had just turned to Christ. They asked, “How can we do this when we have no money?” But they had heard this message from the Bible, “I will build My church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
They stepped out in faith and today U-Turn for Christ is a successful ministry teaching individuals to be independent, self-supporting, and stable under the Lordship of Jesus Christ by becoming an asset to their family, church, friends, employers, schools and society. When enrollees come to U-Turn For Christ, most of them have hit their lives “bottom,” and some are ready to do whatever is necessary to have Jesus Christ restore their lives and give them peace again.
In Phase One of the program, participants spend a minimum of two months at one of the U-Turn For Christ ranch locations. Throughout the day they participate in morning devotions, daily chores, volunteer community service, evening Bible study, and nightly personal devotion time.
Phase Two of the program is six months long and comes with two possible paths to travel. Some return to work, pay a monthly donation and attend church with first phase participants in the evening. Others are chosen to commit six months of service to the Lord and are provided for by the ministry.
The programs should help addicts develop strong faith. Many come to a rehab center with not only an addiction, but an awful feeling of guilt and unworthiness. They will learn that the Savior stands ready to forgive every mistake and restore all that has been lost. He loves every person on the planet and desperately wants to make each one a son of God just like Himself.
Let’s all make a U-TURN FOR CHRIST and He will give us the power to become a Son of God! (John 1:12). Love, Grandma Donna
